I thought to myself, "Hell hell hell, there might be a chance for me if I get out now." (2.6.34)
Towards the end of Alex's treatment, he contemplates escape, because he does not want to be transformed into a clockwork orange, a nonhuman, an automaton without moral choice and free will.
Quote 2
"But, sir, sirs, I see that it's wrong. It's wrong because it's against like society, it's wrong because every veck on earth has the right to live and be happy without being beaten and tolchocked and knifed. I've learned a lot, oh really I have." (2.6.22-23)
Alex pretends to have access to a moral system in order to avoid not being able to enjoy classical music ever again. This suggests to us that Alex has really possessed systems of morality and ethics from the get-go.
Quote 3
"Today, old friend, we are letting you walk." (2.6.28)
Here's Alex's first step towards being transformed by Ludovico's Technique. The "old friend" also suggests that the doctors are welcoming Alex back into "their world."
Quote 4
"And what do I get out of this? Do I get cured of the way I am? Do I find myself able to slooshy the old Choral Symphony without being sick once more? Can I live like a normal jeezny again?" (3.5.13)
All Alex truly wants is to be transformed back to his former state, so that he may enjoy classical music again.
