Brigham Young University

Hallmarks and Quirks

Things I'm Good At:

  • Being hot and highly intelligent. I'm not full of myself—Business Insider told me so.

  • Giving people business degrees. I've got tip-top accounting and MBA programs, baby.

  • Giving people graduate degrees without making them pay for it for the next twenty years. We're affordable, yo.

  • I'm good at football or basketball, but I've had a lot more consistent success with volleyball, ballroom dance, and other less-famous sports.

  • Making delicious chocolate milk, which you can which you can buy by the gallon. Got chocolate milk?

  • Being very musical. There are pianos everywhere. Come on down and tickle the ol' ivory.

My Top 5 Must-Haves:

  1. Ice Scraper. For, you know...scraping ice.

  2. Knee-length shorts.

  3. A Book of Mormon. (No, not the musical.)

  4. A smile. Fine, you don't have to smile all the time, but people here really are friendly.

  5. An ability to withstand awkward first dates. Seriously.

Why You Might Have Heard of Me:

  • I've been voted the most popular university around. I have highest percentage of accepted students who end up enrolling. Bam.

  • I've been the most stone-cold sober school around for fifteen years and counting. Dry and proud in Provo.

  • You're a Mormon. I mean let's face it, if you are, you've heard of me.

On a regular Saturday night, you can find me...

On a particularly good weekend, you can find me on a sweet second date at one of the hip eateries or music venues around Provo. On a normal weekend, you can find me on a terribly uncomfortable first date at one of the second- or third-tier restaurants in town. Ha. Haha. Ha.

I can also be found just hanging out at my friends' digs, doing dumb (but creative) things you didn't know sober people could do. (Or would want to do.) I do also study a lot. The classes are hard.

Favorite Hangouts:

  • The Wilk, our student life center. It's pretty great.

  • Y mountain, which you have to hike at least once.

  • Downtown Provo, of course.

  • Every inch of summertime grass. Mm, mmm.

Quirks:

  • Many students at BYU go on church missions around the world that last from eighteen months to two years. The amazing Instagram photos people take abroad aren't the only mementos. Practically everyone brings home some competency in a second language. From Spanish to Malagasy, you'll find a lot of people with surprising language talents on campus.

  • BYU's winter semester gets out in April. Unfortunately, this means no spring break. However, between April and September, I offer two short semesters, so there's lots of time to catch up on classes.

  • You will definitely get the most bang for your buck here. BYU is insanely cheap compared to other private schools, and even compared to public schools. Best of all is that the quality of your education is still top-notch.

  • Family is important here. We have more married students than the average university. We like to mix wedding planning with finals, because finals aren't stressful enough.

Famous Alumni:

  • Band Members from Imagine Dragons and The Neon Trees

  • Jon Heder from the movie Napoleon Dynamite

  • Aaron Eckhart

  • Stephenie Meyer

  • Mitt Romney, also playfully known as R-Money

  • Steve Young, football player

  • Ken Jennings, record-holding Jeopardy contestant

  • Orson Scott Card, author of the Ender's Game series.
