While you're not exactly curing Ebola (because hemorrhagic fevers rarely pursue formal litigation), you are bringing resolution to disputes—and that has to count for something. Sure, the resolution often follows a lot of squabbling over various sums of money, with you simply acting as the referee.
But it does matter more when someone's life work has been stolen by a corporation as an afterthought, or a minimum-wage worker just lost her savings to a questionable contract.
If you think our justice system is right and good, then you'll be doing right and good by working as its human interpreter; regardless of which people stand pleading their case before you. Just keep telling yourself that next time you have to rule on the side of a multi-billion dollar corporation that's angry because a daycare painted an anthropomorphic mouse on its door without permission.
