The unemployment rate for astrophysicists is low—less than two percent (source). Of course, that might be because there are so few of them out there. Don't worry: if it's not going to work out between you and a career in astrophysics, it's not going to string you along before you figure it out. You'll know pretty darn fast if this isn't the field for you—and if it isn't, there are other routes you could take.

Earn that college degree and you could get an industry job at a private company like Boeing, or work for the weather channel, which would also be pretty cool (and you might even go viral).

Truthfully, succeeding in school and getting that research experience is the hard part. There are going to be lots of late nights, early mornings, headaches, and occasional crying fits because you just don't understand what's going on and Professor Sagan is too mean to give you the answers. But if you can get through school, the rest should be a piece of wormhole-shaped cake.
