Power

You won't have millions of employees at your command. You won't be able to get presidents elected or topple the governments of small countries with your power and influence. But being a B&B owner can be empowering in a way.

You're your own boss. You might even have a cooking or cleaning staff that you can boss around a bit. We recommend you do this nicely, however—cooks and maids have their own particular brand of revenge.

On the flip side, your job is to keep guests happy. And some guests are never, ever happy, no matter what you do. They enjoy watching you scurry around to please them and will take advantage of it. No doubt, this kind of deal can be a bit disempowering.

Don't worry about overly-bossy guests, though. Chances are they only act that way because they feel powerless most of the time. In the end, it's your place and your rules. You control everything from the food to the décor.

It's your castle, so rule it wisely and make it what you want it to be.
