Glory
There may have been a time when being the bookie was a glorious position flush with luxury, praise, and loads of holiday cards. These day's it's a pretty minor cog in the multi-billion-dollar gambling industry. If you work in a casino, you might only see people when you pay them out. If you work at a racetrack, you might never even leave your office. And if you run an online betting company, well...okay, sitting around in your underwear all day is actually fairly glorious.
Of course, when someone wins a real big bet, they might give you a high five, bear hug, or even kiss on the cheek. On the outside, you'll try to look pretty annoyed at the human contact, but deep down we know you're into it.
