Physical Danger

Physical Danger

Unfortunately, physical danger is a very real possibility with a career as a CIA. This is especially true of bigger prisons with large numbers of inmates (or even smaller prisons with bigger inmates). Tempers can flare quickly. Many inmates have mental health issues like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia; many others suffer from plain ol' butt-headedness that can lead to fights and become dangerous in a snap. Oh snap.

The nature of correctional facility work means everyone—even the boss—must go through annual training on proper restraint techniques, self-defense, and cultural sensitivity, just to name a few. The key to staying safe isn't just through brawn, either. Correctional staff members are trained to use psychological techniques to minimize danger for everyone, including the inmates. Sometimes just listening to an inmate can diffuse a potentially dangerous situation. Sounds good to us.
