So you got your degree and your skills. Now what?

Consult the building. Hm. Nothing?

Well, we here at Shmoop suggest finding a job. That's easier said than done, though. Those who major in architecture find it pretty hard to get employment these days, and by "pretty hard," we mean that architecture is the major whose unemployment rate will make you want to cry.

The unemployment rate is higher than most, topping out close to 14%. If numbers don't mean much to you, just know that your chance of employment is significantly worse than those in the humanities. Your history and philosophy major pals from college are likely to get jobs before you. Philosophy, guys.

When (and if) you get a job, you'll do pretty well. The pay and satisfaction rates are nothing to scoff at, with the median pay rate being $63,000 and the satisfaction rate being 59%. You'll probably just be overwhelmingly satisfied you have an architecture job in general.

What's the take away here, then?

Well, Shmoopers, we believe in love. If you love something, go for it. If the buildings and bridges are calling out to you, then by all means, answer. Or block their number. Tell them to stop leaving you creepy voicemails. Seriously.

If you decide on love, just know that you'll need to be better than a whole lot of other people to get any sort of employment in the field. You gotta be in it to win it.
