Job Satisfaction

General quality of life statement

Here's something you've probably heard someone say: you can't buy happiness. In our modern culture, we generally scoff, and go back to trying to buy BMWs made entirely out of diamonds and the tears of endangered species. Yet it really seems to be true.

Money means you don't worry about certain things, but it doesn't seem to produce the bone-deep job satisfaction that people think it should. As a matter of fact, the most satisfying jobs, the ones that make people really happy with the legacy they're leaving on earth, are the ones where they get to help people.

That means this one. You're helping out kids for one thing (and for the most part), and even better, you're helping out kids that need a little more help than most. That's what they call fulfilling.

It's not going to fill your bank account. Sorry about that segue, but we get our segues in bulk, and not all of them are the best. Your pay is going to be comparable to a lot of teachers, with maybe a bit extra thrown in. Not exactly a financial windfall to compensate for that extra training.

The main question is, are you willing to drive a used car and maybe rent an apartment for longer than your friends? The trade off is you can look at the next generation and know, for certain, you're making the world better.
