We really wanted to end this one on a positive note. We were hoping that at the end of this, we would find that everyone who gets this degree gets millions of dollars and lives on a rainbow island with all the unicorns they can eat and/or ride. Depending on what you want from your unicorns.

Sadly, this does not appear to be the case. While some speech pathologists make very good money, many of them do not. Your median pay is low enough to make you think you accidentally signed up for a humanities. And here you thought you were studying a branch of medicine.

In a perfect world, you would have all of that and more. This is an important major, and it's a stressful one. We suspect that the low job satisfaction is partly a product of the meager pay combined with the high stress of the work. It's a hard road. Harder than you probably imagined.

This might be a good thing. Because the pay is low and the stress is high, this is only going to attract people who really want this life. You don't want someone just in it for the money. The ideal person for this major doesn't just want to make a difference; they need to. Someone who isn't happy unless they're changing lives for the better. If that's you, we're happy to know you.
