There aren't any figures for how much counselors make on average. Know why? Not enough people major in it to create any kind of useful statistic. The pay will probably vary widely anyway. A counselor at an inner city public school is going to make less than one at a prestigious boarding school. That's just how things work.

Better news is that nonexistent unemployment figure. We were shocked, too. We had to check twice. What this implies is that there's a demand for counselors that's not being met by incoming students. That's good for you. Provoke a bidding war over your services. At least hold out for a money shower.

Although considering the kind of person who's into this major tends to be one of those living-saint types, maybe money isn't your thing. Hats off to you, really. You're going to be making a difference in lives, so you'll have a satisfaction undreamt of by your richer friends.

Besides, with this level of demand, you should be able to work where you like. Find the people that most need you and counsel the heck out of them. They might not appreciate it until much later…but in the end, you'll know that you helped them.
