General quality of life statement

The life of a teacher can be rewarding, but mostly in the sentimental sense. That is, elementary school educators don't exactly go home at night and roll around in a pile of money, but they can certainly sleep with peace of mind.

The 74% job satisfaction is about as good as it gets. There are only a handful of professions that are higher than that, and yes, that does include unicorn wrangling at the ice cream factory. Sort of.

The salary is on the low end, which should be no surprise, but you've got to figure out what matters most to you. There are thousands of people who drive home in $200,000 cars and dread going back to work the next day.

That won't be you.

You're more likely to come home with a great, big smile on your face, and you'll have plenty of "kids say the darnedest things" stories. Arguably, the best part of going into elementary education is that you will likely positively impact the lives of hundreds of people, and we're all about that stuff here at Shmoop.
