Description

Before people had real jobs, there were engineers. Just open your history books and you're bound to run in to them. Bigshots like Leonardo da Vinci (the original Leo), Galileo, and Isaac Newton all helped develop what we now know as engineering principles.

In fact, these clever cats helped explain and improve the world around us. There's never a lack of jobs for engineers because their expertise is invaluable to many different fields. Check this out:

Who do you call if you want to…

  • Build a bridge?
  • Do surgery with new technology?
  • Go to space?
  • Fly a plane?
  • Create a robot?

If you guessed "an engineer," you're right on the money. At the heart of engineering is a desire to build and design, so these smart guys and gals can head off to work in many different arenas. Engineers can specialize in mechanical, civil, biomedical, nuclear, electrical, or chemical engineering, but they all get to play with machines and figure out ways to improve them.

So if you loved playing with Legos as a kid or simply think designing new stuff is awesome, then check out engineering. It's the closest thing we've got to "inventor." Hey, even the word "engineer"  means "inventor" in Latin.
