This was never about the money, was it? Please say no.

Okay, good. Unless you're just humoring us. You're not signing up for the big bucks when you go for a career in gender and women's studies. Not unless you took it as a minor and majored in making all the money ever. That's a pretty popular major.

No, you're here because you're passionate. You're a fighter. You have a cause, some ill you want to correct, and this is the way to do it. Congratulations, you're pretty awesome.

Now, the bad news. Fighting all the time isn't the greatest recipe for happiness. You're going to see a lot of bad stuff, and you may not win every time. That's not going to feel so good, and sure enough, the job satisfaction isn't stellar in this field.

Then again, sometimes you win. Sometimes you'll go up against long odds and come out on top. You'll score rights for the downtrodden and spread awareness about discrimination. It might not be a big victory, but you made a difference. You made the world better. After all, Batman doesn't fight crime for glory or money. He does it because the world needs him, just like the world needs people like you.

If you're one of those special folks who sees the gender equality signal in the sky, this is the field for you.
