For Minors: Instruction Permit & Graduated License

For Minors: Instruction Permit & Graduated License

Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.

A short list:

  • You must be at least 15 years old to obtain an Instruction Permit and at least 17 years old for a Class D License.
  • You have to pass the normal vision and written exams for the Instruction Permit, as well as the driving test for the Class D.
  • Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
  • If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
  • You must provide proof that you completed both a state-approved driver training program and the Graduated Driver's Licensing Program, likely given at your school or a state-approved school, in order to be issued an Instruction Permit.
