For Minors: Learner’s License & Graduated Licensing

Key thing for those of you under 18: get Mom, Dad, or your guardian to sign your application. And there are a ton of things to remember as a young driver.

A short list:

  • You must be at least 14 ¾ years old to obtain a Learner's License and at least 16 years old for an intermediate license.
  • You have to pass the normal vision and written exams for the Learner's License, as well as the driving test for the intermediate.
  • Bring all of the proper identification. It's a lot harder than you think to get McLovin printed on your license.
  • If you're under 18, you have to be in compliance with school attendance. So, if you planned on dropping out of high school to become a taxi driver, you're out of luck.
  • You must provide proof that you have completed the corresponding segment of driver education each time you want to progress to the next level of graduated licensing, which is kind of like leveling up in a video game, except with actual benefits to you in real life.
