Adjusted Underwriting Profit

The insurance industry's term for business profit.

Profits are revenues minus costs. Insurance company revenues are generated from the insurance premiums they collect from customers plus growth of their financial investments. Subtract costs of doing business plus any claims payouts, and voila. Any self-respecting insurance company will have a positive balance, which is the adjusted underwriting profit.
