Comparative Statement

A comparative statement is the side-by-side application of using one company’s current financial statement to see how the performance of another company stacks up. Comparative statements can also contrast a company’s current financial statement against a previous period’s financial statement. “How much better (or worse) are we doing compared to Milton’s Big Box Store?” “How much better (or worse) are we doing compared to last year’s sales numbers?”
Basically, the comparative statement is used to see where you (the company) is in comparison to prior performance, or where the company is versus a competitor in the same industry.
It's basically a relative-to-your-sibling report card.
