Exchanges are today relatively easy to build from scratch, because the technology, security, and fluidity of global exchanges has become so easy to reproduce. As a result, many associations that own their own domain, like the Corn Picker Association, can create their own little eBays, and trade among a wide range of buyers and sellers.

Why would they want to do this? Industry knowledge. If you are the casino, you have a much better idea of who is loving the blackjack table, and who's loving the poker table, and who is having too many drinks.

Our question: why isn't Amazon in this business?
