Green Marketing

Categories: Marketing

Take a look at some products you’ve bought. Do they have some nice leaves on them? Maybe the words “organic,” “carbon neutral,” or “biodegradable”? Fair trade? Sustainably sourced? Is that bottle made of 87% recycled plastic?

That’s green marketing, front and center.

Green marketing is marketing of goods and services using “greenness," i.e. environmentally-friendly factors...as a factor for differentiating their products for the environmentally-aware consumer market.

A company’s product’s ingredients, processing, or physical packaging are all opportunities for companies to be a little more friendly to the environment (and market it, of course...otherwise, what’s the point, as firms are first and foremost profit-seeking and profit-maximizing?).

Mean, lean, and green.
