Holder Of Record

Categories: Trading, Regulations

Wear the largest beard of bees or suffer from hiccups longer than anyone else in human history, you too might become the holder of the record, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Sadly, the typical definition of "holder of record" has nothing to do with a beard of bees. The term has a specific meaning in finance.

It refers to the person (or organization) designated as the registered owner of a security, like a stock or a bond. The holder of record gets all the rights related to ownership. For example, they would have the ability to vote at shareholders meetings or receive dividend or coupon payments.
