Married Filing Jointly

It's how married couples file taxes....often.

If you do the math, you'll find that, as individuals, each member of the couple might be charged less than they would filing as a married couple. The notion of filing "jointly" then begs the question, "Why not file singly?" Well, sometimes married couples do. The bottom line is that tax laws change all the time. It often costs more, at least in taxes, to be married. But it's way cheaper than divorce.

So when you say, "I do", you may want to tack on the phrase "...commit to paying a bit more in taxes as a married couple filing jointly rather than if we had chosen to remain single."

Okay, now you can smash the wine glass.
