Probate

Amateur bate that gets...paid?

Ok, no. When you have to endure probate, it means that you have died...or rather, your progeny has to endure probate because you died without a clear chain of inheritance, i.e. "Who gets your money when you're dead?" See: Intestate.

Probate is the process of analyzing who gets what when somebody dies. The goal from the outset was to be fair. But then lawyers took more and more of the pie for "giving" their opinions on fairness, so that, today, probate ends up taking a huge bite out of the estates of the defeneseless dead.

You can always trust lawyers to do the right, ethical thing, though, right?
