About Me

Intro

I'm eclectic, and sometimes a little snobby…but it's just because I'm so awesome and different. No two experiences here are the same, so it's hard for me to generalize. In terms of academics, a lot of people praise my law and film programs, but I'm so much more than that. I'm located in the heart of NYC, so there's a little something for everyone.

I don't have a typical campus, so if you're looking for that really close-knit, school-spirited student body, I'm probably not for you. However, if you love having millions of different options for food, entertainment, and culture within walking distance (or at least a short subway ride away), you'll love me—ladies in particular. We have a lot of women here.

Name

I'm a bobcat. I think my name is Bobst, but no one seems to know for sure…or maybe no one cares. The irony is, I'm really supposed to be a "fighting violet" but my shape takes the form of a bobcat. I guess violets don't exactly seem all that pugnacious.

Hometown

New York City. More specifically, Manhattan. Even more specifically, the very hip Greenwich Village. Most people just call it "The Village."

Birthdate

1831

Body Type

You know it, I know it—I'm huge. I hold around 23,000 undergrads and 22,000 graduate students at any given time. They live in all kinds of different building around me. Like I mentioned before, we don't have a typical campus.

The majority of our freshman dorms and classrooms are situated in buildings surrounding Washington Square Park. Since the park is public and belongs to the city, I can't really claim it as my campus…but it's pretty much mine. I recently surpassed the Catholic Church in owning the most land in Manhattan, and I'm still hungry for more.

Current Living Situation

You could say that most students live "on campus," but that really means the surrounding city. Since most upperclassmen dorms are not near Washington Square Park, it seems as though you live "off-campus." That's actually what's so awesome about me—you can apply to live in different neighborhoods all over lower Manhattan. Plus, they aren't really dorms, but full-fledged apartment buildings.

Yes, you'll have to share a room, but you'll also get nice bathrooms and fully equipped kitchens (most even include a dishwasher). Fancy livin'. Each "dorm" provides free shuttle access to Washington Square Park, Union Square (where the good gym is) and other locations where classes are held.

Relationship Status

I'm kind of a loner, but that's the way I like it. I'd say I have a pretty competitive relationship with Columbia. Sure, it's an Ivy League, but it's not nearly as awesome as I am. Let's be honest…their campus is in a lame part of town. They claim to be all smart and special but they don't have nearly the fame or reputation I have.

I've been voted the top dream school so many times that I've lost track. My film school also tends to get in arguments with the one over at USC'. They must be jealous that we're ranked the number one film school in the world.

Religion

I'm not affiliated with a religion but I have a decent Orthodox Jewish population. I even have a dorm with a kosher dining hall. I'd consider myself quite friendly to most religions since everyone has access to the many religious institutions in the surrounding city.

Politics

I'm mostly liberal. If there's a demonstration or protest to be had, you'll find it in Washington Square Park with a whole bunch of my students there to show their support. With that said, I have a pretty powerful business school that can be conservative at times, especially on economic issues.

You should apply to me if...

you love variety, city living, and don't care about a traditional campus or college life full of cheap keg parties. No one wants to haul a full-sized keg up a five-floor staircase. No one.
