Source: The Terminator

Speaker: Kyle Reese

Come with me if you want to live.

Context

This line is spoken by Kyle Reese, played by Michael Biehn, in the film The Terminator, directed by James Cameron (1984).

The Terminator combines time travel, war, killer cyborgs, and a love story into one big-haired, leather-jacketed adventure. Kyle Reese comes from the future to save Sarah Connor, who's eventually going to have a baby that will save the world. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the cyborg, aptly dubbed a Terminator, also sent from the future to stop Kyle from saving Sarah. It's complicated.

While trying to lie low when she realizes her life might be in jeopardy, Sarah ends up at a bar called Tech Noir. Kyle has followed her, because he's supposed to keep her safe from the cyborg. When the Terminator shows up and starts shooting at the bar, Reese tells Sarah he's her only chance to get out alive, and going with this random dude seems like a better option than staying to watch the bullets fly.

Where you've heard it

Every time a new Terminator movie comes out, this line gets dropped. It's kind of fun to predict when it'll show up, because a different character from the movies says it every time. The phrase has also spawned some hilarious bodybuilding shirts.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

If you're planning on saving a life sometime soon, this might be the ticket that convinces people you're there to help. It might also make them break into spontaneous laughter, because real life isn't a Terminator movie.
