"So the last shall be first, and the first last."

So the last shall be first, and the first last.

Context

This line is written by Matthew in Matthew 20:16.

Here Jesus is telling the Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard, where everybody gets paid the same amount regardless of how much work they do. So even if some workers came into the vineyard first, and started laboring early in the morning, they would get just as much as the guys who came in three hours later. Confused? So were the disciples.

Where you've heard it

When you turn the tables on someone, this quote might come in handy. And it was basically made for Mario Kart.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Is it pretentious to quote scripture in a competitive setting? We think not.
