"Let the sky fall. When it crumbles, we will stand tall."

Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall

We will stand tall
Face it all together

Context

This line is from the song "Skyfall," written by Adele and Paul Epworth and released as a single (2012).

If you thought that Skyfall was just an awesome name for a James Bond movie, you were only partly right. Skyfall also turns out to be the name of—spoiler alert!—Bond's childhood home in Scotland. When the big bad villain comes after Bond and M, the two hide out there until the shitake mushrooms hit the fan.

Of course, Bond ends up doing exactly what Adele says he's gonna do. When the sky falls, he doesn't crumble. He stands tall. He and M face that villain together and, of course, they win. And James Bond goes on to make more sequels and drink more martinis and sex up more victims of sex trafficking. Hey, it's just another day for 007.

Where you've heard it

"Skyfall" got some pretty solid reviews as one of the best Bond theme songs, so you'll probably hear people humming these lyrics under their breath anytime they ask for their cocktails "shaken, not stirred."

Is "Skyfall" the very best James Bond theme song of all time? Possibly. These opening credits featuring the song sure are helping it kick butt.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Okay, come on, James Bond is a pretty pretentious dude. And declaring that you're gonna stand tall as the sky falls is just a bit arrogant, isn't it? But also, good for you for looking danger right in the face. Pass the carrots now, would you?
