"My name is Legion."

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

Context

This line is written by Mark in Mark 5:8-9.

Jesus hears about this guy who's possessed by an evil spirit, so he goes to help the guy out, and ends up having a short conversation with the demon(s) inside him. Not freaky at all, right?

Where you've heard it

Because it's one of the few demon "names" in the Bible, "legion" has almost become synonymous with demonic characters in pop culture, from Stephen King novels to Paul Bettany movies.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Not too pretentious, though it's pretty creepy…
