"Can ye not discern the signs of the times?"

[...] O ye hypocrites, [...] can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Context

This line is written by Matthew in Matthew 16:3.

Once again, the Pharisees and Sadducees are trying to get Jesus to show them a sign that he is who he says he is. Jesus must be getting pretty sick of the same ol' run-around from these guys.

And too bad for them, he won't be giving them any more signs. Those are only for evil people, apperently.

Where you've heard it

It seems like people (often older folks) say this a lot when newfangled social trends pop up, from fast-casual dining to police body cameras to high tech baby announcements.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Sounds a bit fuddy-duddyish, doesn't it?
