Author: Paul

"When I became a man, I put away childish things."

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Context

This line is written by Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:11.

Here, tucked toward the end of Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, is Paul's anti-Peter Pan manifesto on adulthood. Once you become an adult, you need to put away childish things. Does that mean we can't go play laser tag anymore?

Where you've heard it

This quote can come up when an adult likes supposedly childish things, but C.S. Lewis put his own forever-young spin on the line.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Sounds pretty darn pretentious if you ask us. But it's ripe for ironic use, so just use your best judgment.
