Source: Seinfeld

Speaker: Babu

"You very bad man, Jerry."

You very bad man, Jerry. Very bad man.

Context

This line is spoken by Babu, played by Brian George, in the show Seinfeld (1989-1998).

The king of '90s sitcoms, Seinfeld is a show about nothing, in which four neurotic New Yorkers spend most of their time over-analyzing things that don't matter. Somehow... it's brilliant. The quote pops up several times throughout the series, usually coming from the mouth of Babu, a Pakistani dude who opens a restaurant across from Jerry's apartment. Though Jerry tries to help Babu in his special Jerry way, it always ends with bad stuff happening, like Babu's restaurant failing and Babu almost getting deported.

Where you've heard it

We hope that you've heard this quote on Seinfeld. If not, get with the program, huh? Since Seinfeld is one of those shows that everybody's seen, it's been referenced and spoofed plenty over the years. Mystery Science Theater 3000 mentioned it a bunch of times, Sawyer made a reference to it in a flashback on Lost, and the list goes on.

But the biggest Seinfeld reference covers a whole season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which Seinfeld co-creator Larry David herds the original cast together for a reunion show.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Babu might be judgy, but he's not a snob.
