Proverbs Lust Quotes

How we cite our quotes: (Chapter:Verse)

Quote #4

Then a woman comes toward him, decked out like a prostitute, wily of heart. She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home; now in the street, now in the squares, and at every corner she lies in wait. She seizes him and kisses him, and with impudent face she says to him: 'I had to offer sacrifices, and today I have paid my vows; so now I have come out to meet you, to seek you eagerly, and I have found you! I have decked my couch with coverings, colored spreads of Egyptian linen; I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with love. For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey. He took a bag of money with him; he will not come home until full moon.' (NRSV 7:10-20)

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart. (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him, I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows. Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves. For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey: he hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed. (KJV 7:10-20)

This is a cautionary example, obviously. It's also something the author witnessed looking out of the lattice of his or her house, incidentally.

Quote #5

Desire without knowledge is not good, and one who moves too hurriedly misses the way. (NRSV 19:2)

Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. (KJV 19:2)

If you have desires, but no knowledge, you won't know how to limit or restrain your desires in a reasonable way. Also, like coach John Wooden used to tell his players at UCLA, "Don't hurry."

Quote #6

This is the way of an adulteress: she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, "I have done no wrong." (NRSV 30:20)

Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness. (KJV 30:20)

Adulterers treat their liaisons like they're no big thing—as casual as eating lunch.
