A Little Less Girl Chapter 8 Summary

Dani

  • Back at home, Dani's mom is painting her toenails and asks Dani about her first day.
  • It was fine. Well, except for the whole Jake plan. What did Dani think she would do? Just walk into school and hate Jake and make him feel awful? It was really a weak plan.
  • Dani's mom isn't loving life in Raynesville. She doesn't get why everyone at school was so freaked out about how Dani was dressed.
  • Hey, Dani tells her, we finally have a home and that's that. Maybe Mom could go grocery shopping sometime and get some food for dinner? Huh?
  • Dani also mentions that she might try out for the swim team. She was pretty fast in California, right?
  • When Mom asks if Dani saw Jake, she can't help but tell her the truth. Yeah, the guy is pretty gorgeous and perfect. Sigh.
  • Dani goes upstairs to wash her goth makeup off. Outside, she notices some horses grazing in a field down the street. Those are Jake's horses.
  • Dani decides to read a little bit more of Amy's diary. Cue more dreamy details about Jake. But Amy also mentions a kid named Ryan Wilford who isn't looking too good—no one seems to notice but her. Maybe that's because she's invisible, too?
  • Amy also tells a little story about science class. Turns out Jake saved her from burning her hand on a beaker full of acid—what a dreamboat—and since Jake actually touched her hand, she will not be washing it anytime soon.
  • Okay, Dani thinks, so Amy was obsessed with the guy, but he actually seems nice. Where's all the bad stuff? Where's all the cruelty? How's Dani supposed to hate Jake West anyway?
