The MPAA got it right when it comes to The Avengers.

There's not much in the way of sexuality (though Hemsworth is looking beef-ilicious and we love the way Johansson wears that jumpsuit). And, as we know from the sequel, Captain America has an issue with any language fouler than "hot diggity dog." The violence gets a little intense, however. Coulson's death (and his blood-soaked trading cards) is probably the worst of it, but other bits of intensity pop up from time to time.

It's nothing your average junior high schooler can't handle, but don't subject your poor little four-year-old cousin to the spectacle of Chitauri taking Manhattan.
