- The next morning, the family (including Antonio's father) leaves to visit Antonio's mother's family.
- While there, they witness the funeral procession for Tenorio's daughter.
- But the priest of the town will not allow the procession to pass into the church.
- The trip ends, and Antonio's uncles tell his mother that they would be honored if she would let Antonio come stay with them next summer to learn to work the land as a farmer.
