The Butter Battle Book Lines 152-161 Summary

Desperate Times call for Desperate Measures

  • Once again outdone by VanItch and the Zooks, Grandpa returns despondent. You can't help but feel sorry for him.
  • His bad attitude is matched by that of the Yooks and the Butter-Up Band. Their drum majorette says to Grandpa, "That was a pretty sour flight that you flew" (160). And they were so peppy!
  • Unlike before when everyone was cheering Grandpa on even though he wasn't winning the war, this time everyone's grumpy.
  • There's a certain degree of threat in Miz Yookie-Ann Sue's tone when she says, "the Chief Yookeroo has been looking for you!" (161). This doesn't look good for Grandpa.
  • The Yooks are getting desperate. Who would blame them? Modernization and technological development is tiring work, and without the thrill of victory, it's pretty tough to keep the old spirits up.
