The Butter Battle Book Theme of Power

What are the Yooks and Zooks competing for in The Butter Battle Book? Power, that's what. They'll go to any lengths to get that power, too. But by the end of the book, the competition seems to have overwhelmed even the desire for power. After all, if either of those bombs is dropped, there won't be any power to be had. Unless Seuss has a thing for zombies.

Questions and Answers

Questions the little ones might ask and how you might respond

Q: What's the problem with power?
A: There's this saying, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." People will think you're precocious if you can say that.

Q: Can't power be used for good?
A: Absolutely. Power has a place in our world. Parents, teachers, politicians, and even toddlers all have power. But power needs to be checked; otherwise, it can get out of control.
