Poprishchin vs. Teplov

Teplov the kammerjunker and Poprishchin the titular councillor aren't that far apart in rank (as Medji the dog would tell you), but even those small differences are important. In the looks department, Teplov has dark hair and dark eyes; Poprishchin's hair is like hay. Teplov grows his facial hair into broad, masculine side-whiskers. He's managed to get himself into the court circles. Teplov gets the girl, Poprishchin doesn't.
