Larisa Fyodorovna Antipova (aka Lara, Lurochka) Timeline and Summary

  • We meet Lara as a teenage girl. Her father is gone, and her mother has opened a sewing shop in Moscow to help the family make ends meet. Her mother's boyfriend Komarovsky, though, decides that he's got a bit of a thing for Lara. She knows it's inappropriate, but the man is very persistent and she eventually starts having a sexual relationship with him.
  • Eventually, Lara comes to hate Komarovsky and takes a job with another family to get away from him. Years later, she tries to guilt Komarovsky into giving her money, but when he ignores her, she tries to kill him with a gun. The attempt fails.
  • When she's let off the hook for attempted murder, Lara marries a young man named Pasha Antipov who has loved her since he was a boy. They move to a quiet town in the mountains to be teachers, and they have a daughter named Katenka.
  • Antipov eventually gets restless and volunteers to fight in World War I. Lara becomes a nurse so that she can go after him and find him. Unfortunately, she learns that her husband is missing and presumed dead.
  • While serving as a nurse, Lara meets Yuri Zhivago and falls in love with him. They don't enter into a relationship right away, though. Lara returns to raise her daughter in the Urals, and Zhivago goes back to be with his family in Moscow.
  • A few years later, Zhivago and his family move to a village that's near where Lara is living. Zhivago and Lara start having an affair. Meanwhile, Lara learns that her husband is still alive and is posing as a bloodthirsty army dude named Strelnikov.
  • Zhivago disappears for a few years after being kidnapped. When he returns, Lara is waiting for him and tells him his family has been deported. She thinks he should go after them, but he instead stays with her, and they live as if they were man and wife.
  • Eventually, Lara finds out that she's in trouble with the Russian authorities because of her connection to Strelnikov (her husband). She and Zhivago go to live in the woods in secret. It eventually becomes clear, though, that they'll be found and arrested.
  • Lara's old suitor Komarovsky shows up and offers her and Zhivago safe passage out of Russia. She won't go without Zhivago, but he tricks her by saying that he'll follow her to safety. She goes with Komarovsky, but Zhivago never follows.
  • Years later, Lara is traveling through Moscow and stumbles across Zhivago's funeral. She's overwhelmed with grief.
  • We learn that shortly after attending this funeral, Lara is arrested by Russian police. She dies in a concentration camp soon after.
