Your Field Guide to Spotting Frigg

Your Field Guide to Spotting Frigg

(Middle school level)

Frigg can often be spotted wandering the halls of her very own digs, Fensalir. She may be accompanied by twelve ladies-in-waiting. Don’t see any throngs of women? Just look for the regal-looking lady wearing an enormous set of keys on her belt and carrying a distaff, a tool used in spinning to hold the finished threads. Sadly, she may be crying tears of gold over the death of her son, Balder.

Fulla, her most trusted maidservant and official caretaker of the royal shoes
Gná, another maidservant and her well-mounted messenger

Nine other ladies-in-waiting
Eir, a goddess of the healing arts and one of her dearest friends
Her husband, Odin

Known Hangouts:

Frigg has a lot on her plate managing not one, but three royal households: her own digs (Fensalir) and her husband’s official residences (Valhalla and Valaskialf). She doesn’t often wander far from these halls, although she has been known to head to a thing – an official gathering of her community’s leaders – especially when official business involves her son, Balder. Since her hall, Fensalir, is in the marshes, medieval Scandinavian women feel especially close to Frigg in the wetlands, and worship her there. So if you can’t make it to Asgard, you might try looking for her in a swamp.
