- Blomkvist decides the best way to get in touch with Salander is by writing her a letter, and leaving it for her in a file in his own computer.
- He knows she has access to his computer, and hopes she still monitors it.
- In the letter, he says that he doesn't think she's the killer, that he's investigating the other suspects, and that if she needs a lawyer, his sister Annika is available for her.
- He asks her for information on how Dag and Mia are connected with Bjurman.
- Dragan Armansky is also investigating the triple murder. He assigns his employees Sonny Bohman and Niklas Hedström to work with the police as consultants.
- Armansky doesn't think Salander is innocent, but he does believe there's an explanation.
- The police investigation team meets with Dr. Peter Teleborian from St. Stefan's Psychiatric Clinic. Teleborian is one of the most famous psychiatrists in Sweden.
- Teleborian oversaw Salander's treatment when she was committed to St. Stefan's in 1991.
- He tells the police he's not surprised she's a killer; she should have stayed institutionalized.
- He admits there's no "complete diagnosis" (17.141) of Salander, because she never submitted to testing, or participated in her own treatment.
- But, she has a long history of violence, beginning in grade school.
- He calls her an "egomaniacal psychopath" (17.155) who might well react violently if the police try to arrest her.
