Green Eggs and Ham Life, Consciousness, and Existence Quotes

These little words have left a pretty big legacy. One thing we don't always remember, though, is that they are written on signs. That's right, signs to the world from Sam; signs that say, "Hey world, I exist!" Green Eggs and Ham celebrates this exuberant self-awareness, and our human (or creature) need to interact with others to affirm our own existences. Ah, philosophy.

When Sam doesn't get the kind of attention he wants from the big guy, he tries flipping the script a little, inverting the "normal" order of things to make a splash. This is also our cue that we are in Seussville, where the rules don't apply. In Seussville, going against the grain is not only acceptable, but desired.

Wise Sam knows that with some fresh air, exercise, a change of scenery, cool companions, and exotic food, the big guy's frown will be turned upside down quicker than you can say blubbering blobs. And how about that word "may"? Does that glimmer of doubt make Sam the more reasonable figure of the tale?

The message here is simple: if you can't beat your eggs, join them—or at least try them. Or never look a gift ham in the fork. Or maybe it's just that we should sit back and enjoy the ham, especially when it's greener on the other side.
