Calvin Coolidge's Inaugural Address: Section 2: History Review Summary

A.K.A. Cramming Before that A.P. U.S. History Final

  • It's been about 150 years since the U.S. declared independence and adopted the Constitution.
  • Then, 50 years after that, the U.S. reiterated its independence through the Monroe Doctrine, which said that any further Old World interference in Latin America would be considered a threat to the U.S. and treated accordingly.
  • After that, the U.S. expanded westward and apparently spread freedom and justice to all the people who were already living there.
  • Finally, the U.S. got involved in World War I to again defend its values, for no compensation other than its own moral satisfaction.
  • Throughout American history, it's always been about independence and being as "American" as possible.
