Truman Doctrine: George Kennan

    Truman Doctrine: George Kennan

Kennan was an American diplomat in Russia and Truman advisor who believed the U.S. must contain, or stop, the expansion of the Soviet Union. His suggestion became known as "containment."

The Truman Doctrine was a policy of containment because it called for providing direct aid to foreign countries resisting communism or communist threats. (No communist government in power = countries can't be added to the growing Soviet repertoire = threat contained).
