How we cite our quotes: (Stanza.Line)

Quote #1

But as soon as I got sat,
a Better Hunch came
and he yanked off
the Homework Hunch's hat. (9.2-5)

Here we have first sign of the battles and conflicts to come. Pulling off a Hunch's hat is the equivalent of challenging someone to a duel via glove slap.

Quote #2

and [the Down Hunch] sighed, "For goodness sake!
You should never trust an UP Hunch.
You have made a big mistake!" (23.4-6)

It's no surprise, but the Hunches in opposition to each other, like the DOWN and UP hunch, are also in conflict. And the poor boy is caught in the crossfire.

Quote #3

Wild hunches in big bunches
were scrapping all around me,
throwing crunchy hunchy punches. (24.2-4)

We don't know if you noticed, but the picture accompanying these lines has some of the Hunches attacking with their hat hands. The hat hand: a stylish and savage fashion statement.
