Character Role Analysis

Henry Jones

In the past, Henry wasn't much of a mentor to his son, but when the film's main narrative starts and Henry mails Indiana his Grail diary, he starts guiding Indiana from afar. Entrusting his beloved diary to Indiana is a huge vote of confidence in his son, and Indiana uses his dad's notes not only to find his father physically but also to find him emotionally. When Henry tells Indiana to "let it go" at the end of the movie, he's not just talking about the Grail. He's talking about old grudges, too.
