There's no doubt about it: Sigmund Freud plays his own leading man in The Interpretation of Dreams. As much as Freud intended the book to be a serious scientific treatise, and as much as the book does give us a complex and more-or-less rigorous methodology, this heavy doorstop could just as easily have been called Inside Sigmund Freud, Keeping Up with the Freudians, or A Sigmund's Journey: There and Back Again.
