  • Because Eliot's mother is a single, working mother, she needs a babysitter for eleven-year-old Eliot and so answers an ad posted by Mrs. Sen.
  • Eliot ends up staying afterschool at Mrs. Sen's everyday.
  • He spends his days watching Mrs. Sen chop food, talking with her, and accompanying her to the fish market with Mr. Sen.
  • One week, Mrs. Sen is depressed because she finds out that her grandfather has passed.
  • A week later, Mr. Sen takes them to the beach and the fish market to cheer up Mrs. Sen.
  • But then he forces her to practice driving, which upsets Mrs. Sen because she hates driving.
  • On another day, Mrs. Sen and Eliot take the bus to the fish market because Mr. Sen's not available to drive them.
  • An old lady makes a critical comment to the bus driver about Mrs. Sen and the fishy odor.
  • The next time Mrs. Sen needs to go to the market, she decides to drive herself and Eliot. Unfortunately, they get into a car accident.
  • Eliot's mother promptly pulls Eliot from Mrs. Sen's care and decides to just give Eliot a key to the house.
  • Eliot, thereafter, becomes a latch-key kid.
