  1. Oh Our Beloveds
    You may recall that Oprah made a movie based on Morrison's Beloved. Well, here at Shmoop, we almost always find the book is better than the movie. OK, always. So have your kids pick this one up before they go off to see the film.

  2. Song of Ourselves—er, Solomon
    If you haven't read Song of Solomon you're really missing out. Really. This novel is a great rendering of the black experience in America. It's a classic and if it doesn't move you then you're unmovable. This is the novel that scored Morrison the Nobel. Huzzah!
