Gospel of John Truth Quotes

How we cite our quotes: (Chapter:Verse)

Quote #1

The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (NRSV 1:17)

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (KJV 1:17)

According to the Gospel of John, Jesus comes to do away with the old laws because he's greater than all the other prophets combined. No wonder the religious authorities aren't happy with him.

Quote #2

"But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God." (NRSV 3:21)

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. (KJV 3:21)

In this story, the truth is naturally tied in with light and goodness. What's true naturally shines a light, but what's false leaves people wandering around in the dark. Try that during a power outage. And while you have the flashlight out, check out our "Symbols" section for more.

Quote #3

Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." (NRSV 8:31-32)

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV 8:31-32)
